Deadly, but curious.

#02 Unidentified White Polypore
Gorgeous white polypore with soft flesh.
#01 Armillaria gallica – They’re *everywhere*
Remember 2010/10/19#03? The entire Helyar Woods suddenly exploded in Honey Mushrooms.
We brought a *bucket* of them home, and just to be sure that there were no Galerinas in the bunch (deadly potential look-alikes with a brown sporeprint), we spore printed *every* $%^&in’ cluster to make sure that each of them came back white (the color Armillarias should be).
Given their growing habit (re: The Humongous Fungus), I wonder if all of the Honey Mushrooms in Helyar Woods come from the same “individual”?
The Past Ten Days’ Mushrooms
In trying to sort out unidentified specimens as well as keep my spore prints organized by date, I’ll be posting my mushroom finds in “lots” for the rest of the season.
Neat stuff coming soon 🙂
Peace,
-Steve
#05 Coprinus sp. – Eeeek!
All of these are growing at the base of a half-dead tree (which was rutted by deer and struck by lightning) in my parents-in-law’s backyard.
Certain doom for the tree.
#04 Unidentified Polypore
#03 Lacrymaria velutina
Growing on my parents-in-laws’ lawn again. A healthy number of them, too.
Note the beautiful mottled character of the gills.
