#7 Honey Mushrooms!

Didn’t expect this at all. However I know A. gallica grows where I found it, and all features are a match.

When left alone, young A. gallicas can get quite large, given enough water. The second and forth picture caps were approximately 4-5″ across.

Remember 2010/10/19#03? The entire Helyar Woods suddenly exploded in Honey Mushrooms.

We brought a *bucket* of them home, and just to be sure that there were no Galerinas in the bunch (deadly potential look-alikes with a brown sporeprint), we spore printed *every* $%^&in’ cluster to make sure that each of them came back white (the color Armillarias should be).

Given their growing habit (re: The Humongous Fungus), I wonder if all of the Honey Mushrooms in Helyar Woods come from the same “individual”?

Fledgling Honey Mushrooms!

Revisiting these patches later yielded loads of Armillaria gallica, so these are the earlier stages of their development.

See [specimen number pending].
