Russulas are notoriously easy to spot (white gills that fork at the ends, and a distinctive smell) but hard to nail down an exact ID, so I seldom try.

Most of the time the extent of what I do is say “Yep! That’s a pretty Russula,” take some pictures, and then leave it where I found it. 🙂
