A new bloom of Pleurotus (probably P. ostreatus). Currently spore printing to check which species.

#02 Grifola frondosa
#01 Agaricus sp. – A. xanthodermus?
Fascinating find.
Looks like an Agaricus xanthodermus with its cap and yellow-staining base, but the odd thing is that it’s well-established (as you can see) under a blue spruce.
Sadly I did not collect a sample to get a spore print or check under the microscope.
#02 Amanita sp.
Panther-cap-ish, but not sure what it is. It is certainly an Amanita, however.
Very stocky, growing under conifers. Pale, desaturated tan cap.
#01 Agaricus campestris
#08 Bondarzewia berkeleyi? – Big Mushroom
About 10 feet from the tree of decaying Chicken of the Woods, in the middle of the ground without any wood underlying it, we came across this fungus which was rather large, as you can see.
Visually, the closest thing I can find is Bondarzewia berkeleyi, which matches with a white spore print.
Unfortunately, it was beginning to decay, so further identification efforts became a bit hampered.
#07 Unidentified Crust Fungus? – Interesting find
UPDATE: Perhaps this is a specimen of Trichaptum biforme?
As my wife and our daughters were walking through the woods, we came upon a recently downed oak tree right across the path that we normally travel.
From it came this horrible stink like very pungent rotting wood, and we couldn’t figure out exactly what was making it… until we spied the cross-section.
This is a great example that shows how shelf mushrooms and other mycological decomposers grow within trees, as you can see the white rot and mycellium of the turkey-tail like mushrooms that were growing out of its sides.
It’s also interesting to note, that this kind of mycellial growth is being harnessed to grow Styrofoam substitutes that may one day replace non-biodegradable packing materials. ๐
(Which don’t smell bad ๐ )
#06 Pleuteus cervinus?
#05 Amanita sp.
Most likely A. pantherina again, but the cap color is a bit pale. It could be something else.
Still probably just as deadly, so does it matter? Left it in situ. ๐
